This is an NGO working in the redlight area of Kamathipura district in Mumabi. They have a day care centre for children of commercial sex workers. These children have a common pattern of behavioral issues like aggression and abusive language which can be related to both -- their growing up experience and an influence of the environment.
Here, our human and canine therapists work with these children to control their aggression, curb their tempers and acquire gentility. The children realize that violence, to which many of them have become accustomed, is not a healthy way to communicate and that living creatures, animal or mankind, respond positively to a loving touch.
For most of the children, it is the first time they have experienced a healthy relationship with another living being. The non-threatening nature of the animals also helps them tolerate more threatening stimuli, such as their home environment.
